How to Handle Finches

In this video, it talks about what you need to know to handle finches. The finches are very small and it is very important that when you try to handle them, you are very very careful. The best way to approach them is from the back. Make sure you wrap around both sets of feathers because they can get away very easily. Finches have very small wing spans and it doesn’t take much for them to escape. If they do escape, a net is a easy way to catch them. You may have to chase them around your house a little while but that is the safest way to get a hold of them. Once you have got them in the net, place your hand over the net, hold it tight, and you can transport them back to their cage.

How to Sex your finches

Sexing finches is relatively easy, in most cases the male of the species is a  lot more brighter and prettier than the female, pintail whydah, she is brown, the male of the species is white with black wings and very very long tail feathers. Some cases are little more difficult to sex. The best way to sex your bird is to check the egg area. A female will have a very wide pelvic area and the male bird should have a very small pelvic area. if you still have trouble sexing your bird you can take it to a vet, they should be able to tell you. If not the next choice would be to have a DNA test done.
